What is the Fuorisalone?

After three years of pandemic, the spring appointment with the Milano Design Week, the most beautiful week of the year for the Milanese and art and design enthusiasts.

In addition to the usual Furniture expo in the spaces of Rho Fieramilano, dal 17 al 23 April it will be possible to visit dozens of installations around the city of Milan thanks to the Fuorisalone 2023. Health Through Water – GROHE SPA
📍Pinacoteca di Brera

Four immersive environments reveal the elegant and innovative design of the bathroom, each dedicated to a different theme.

Walk the Talk – Eni
📍Orto Botanico di Brera in Via Fiori Oscuri 4

Italo Rota and Carlo Ratti created for Eni, at the Brera Botanical Garden, Walk the Talk a game installation. Walking through a sort of labyrinth, the visitor is invited to explore the theme of the transformation of urban mobility in a sustainable way, placing the person at the center and stimulating reflection on the relationship with the space in which he lives and moves.

Dry Days, Tropical Nights – Agostino Iacurci x glo™ for art
📍Torre Arrighetti in Largo Treves 1

Iacurci's intervention develops from the external facade of the imposing Largo Treves tower, which will soon be demolished, rough inside with bright colors, silhouettes of palm trees and lights reminiscent of tropical sunsets. The artist was inspired by two climatologists who imagined what our peninsula could look like with the current management of the Planet. What might await us are nothing but desert and tropical landscapes, hence the name of the work.

Mister Dior – Philippe Starck x Dior
📍Palazzo Citterio in Via Brera 12

Philippe Starck perfects the iconic Medallion Chair and launches Mister Dior, in homage to the great French designer. Starck optimized the structure, highlighting its most emblematic elements, like the toile de Jouy fantasy, in pink and white or neon orange.

INTERNI DESIGN RE-EVOLUTION – mostra collettiva
📍Università Statale di Milano in Via Festa del Perdono 7

INTERNI DESIGN RE-EVOLUTION proposes a multidisciplinary reflection on the role of Evolutionary Thinking as a planning tool. As every year, the Statale di Milano proposes a collective exhibition.

Isola Design District

Circular – The Circular Village – mostra collettiva
📍Piazza Città di Lombardia, 20124 Milano

Housed in the 4,000m2 covered square of the Lombardy Region, the installation showcases raw raw materials, biomaterials and products made from natural resources or industrial waste that have minimal environmental impact in terms of production. The layout of the space, it is entirely made with a zero waste approach: once the exhibition is over, disused furnishing materials recovered and reused to create displays, bases and dividers, they will have a third life.

H₂O Help – Maria Cristina Finucci x Urban Up | Unipol
📍Via De Castillia 23

The site-specific installation looks like a sort of enormous long sofa 70 meters, formed by a series of "water cushions". You may not immediately realize that the sofa is designed as a living organism, complete with visible veins and arteries. This organism, However, he breathes laboriously, showing everyone his fight for survival and trying to communicate one of the most serious problems he faces: the lack of water. Come All Creators – Kohler
📍Palazzo Senato in Via Senato 10

Kohler presents the monumental aerial sculpture Do not be afraid, dell’artista Janet Echelman, suspended over the historic Senate Palace. He brand, Furthermore, espone prodotti in edizione limitata in collaborazione con quattro artiste per celebrare il 150° anniversario dell’azienda. It is also possible to have an interactive digital experience in which visitors become artists, manipulating colors, patterns and shapes within the space.

Home, understood as a driving force of life, is reborn more beautiful, efficient and inclusive, thanks to installations in collaboration with the Polytechnic of Milan and a calendar of talks, laboratories and workshops with experts on living topics.

5 VIE DESIGN WEEK

Arts&Crafts&Design – Doppia Firma
📍Palazzo Litta in Corso Magenta 24

La settima edizione di Doppia Firma–progetto che promuove l’unione tra l’innovazione del design e l’artigianato tradizionale–si concentra sul tema della leggerezza, encouraging designers and artisans to create works that express their vision through humor, l’ironia, the allusion. The project aims to create a fusion between contemporary design and expressions of traditional craftsmanship from different continents.

Masterly – The Dutch in Milano
📍Palazzo Giureconsulti in Piazza dei Mercanti 2

This is the exhibition that brings the work of designers to the heart of the city, artisans, manufacturers and design agencies, Dutch. Tortona Design Week

We Have An I.D.E.A. – We Will Design

We Will Design, the large experimental laboratory promoted by BASE, features projects by emerging designers from all over the world. Each installation revolves in its own way around the acronym I.D.E.A.: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility. The aim is to make people reflect on the concept of design from not only an aesthetic point of view but also a democratic and sustainable one.

Fuorisalone 2023: widespread events

Among the widespread events of the Fuorisalone 2023, the two most noteworthy are:

  • Alcove. In the unpublished spaces of the Ex-Slaughterhouse of Porta Vittoria, Alcove 2023 hosts beyond 70 projects that explore different and complementary directions of contemporary design, leaving ample space for emerging talents.
  • Triennale Milan. On the occasion of Milan Design Week, the Triennale presents the new permanent exhibition of the Museum of Italian Design. The exhibition is also on stage Droog30, coprodotta con Nieuwe Instituut di Rotterdam, dedicated to the activity of the innovative Dutch design group a 30 years since his first Milanese exhibition for the Fuorisalone of 1993.
